Massachusetts Driver
Attitudinal Retraining Course
( only for Massachusetts Residents )
"DRIVE ALIVE"

Is this program mandatory?
Yes. A new law passed in January 2007 by the Massachusetts legislature imposed new restrictions and mandatory training under the Junior Operator License program. Penalties for drivers under the age of 18 who receive a violation for drag racing, speeding, Cell-Phone use and various other violations, may include completion of the Massachusetts Driver Attitudinal Retraining Course.

How long does the course take and what is it like?
Drive Alive is a four-hour interactive course taught by experienced instructors that incorporates video segments, discussion, lecture and role-play to create a fun,thought-provoking experience.

Upon completion of the DRIVE ALIVE course, participants will be able to:
-Understand how emotions, inexperience, peer pressure and state-of-mind effect driving
- Discuss distracted driving, its dangers, and how to avoid it
- Describe how driving under the influence substantially increases the risk of injury and death
- Define and give examples of aggressive driving
- Discuss the legal, financial and personal consequences of poor decision making
- Understand defensive driving techniques

For fees on the course, please call our office at 1-508-699-9390!

How will I know if I am required to complete this course?
The Massachusetts RMV will notify you by mail that you are required to attend the Massachusetts Driver Attitudinal Retraining Course.

When must I register for and complete this course?
You should complete the course during the suspension period so that you can either reapply for a Permit or your Junior Operator License can be reinstated when the suspension ends.

What will happen if I do not complete the course within the required time frame?
If you do not complete the course by the end of the suspension period, your Junior Operator License will not be reinstated and your suspension will continue until you do satisfactorily complete the course. Permit holders who are suspended will not be allowed to reapply for a new permit until such time as the course is completed.

When and where will the course be taught?
Labonte's Auto School has classroom facilities in the following towns in Massachusetts: North Attleboro, Seekonk, Milford and Bellingham. The four-hour course will be held on weeknights. Go to the Class Schedule Page, and click on the location you would like to take the course at to find a full listing of the class times and dates.

May I bring someone with me to class?
No. Only students with special needs may attend class with a family member or friend who is of legal driving age. No one will be admitted with children.

What do I need to bring to class?
Bring your RMV notice, bring a pen and some form of photo identification such as your learners permit, Junior Operator License, or a work or school ID. Please note, you will not be admitted into class without proper identification.

What if I have special needs such as physical, language, etc.?
Drivers requiring special assistance are welcome to bring along a friend or family member who holds a legal drivers license with them to provide support during the class. Please notify Labonte's Auto School of your intentions so we can plan for your comfort.

How long does it take after the course completion for the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) to update my driver record?

After this 2 Business day period take your certificate of completion, which you received from Labonte's Auto School to your local RMV office to have the completion applied to your driver record.
